From Reflect to Innovate
The client
Buckner first came to me as they began their reconciliation journey, looking for artwork and a publication for their first Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan. When they were ready for the next step, they came back to me for their Innovate RAP. I was honoured to walk alongside them for both.
The brief
The Buckner team wanted more than a cover image. They wanted artwork that told their own story through their values and brand, and a publication that carried that story from start to finish. They also wanted someone to walk with them as they learned.
How we worked together
We started with a chat. Before I begin drawing, I spend time with the team getting to know their people, their values and what reconciliation means to them.
For me, community is at the centre of everything, so this part of the process matters. It's where the story comes from. It's also where teams begin to build their own understanding of, and respect for, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, which is at the heart of a RAP.
For the Reflect RAP, I created Ganada (path). The artwork acknowledges the past and looks to the future with optimism, reflecting openness, respect and inclusivity for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
For the Innovate RAP, I created Circles of Empowerment. Each circle holds one of Buckner's values, and lines and dot work trace the pathways and milestones of their journey.

Where it led
What began as one project has grown into an ongoing relationship. Buckner came back for their Innovate RAP, and someone I worked with there later recommended me to Scody Performance Wear, which led to a new project. Thank you to the Buckner team for their trust.
