Sacred Connections

This cultural border design reflects the role of the Bishop within his Diocese. The concentric circles and symbolism in the artwork represent the people within the Diocese, who surround and move with the Bishop as he wears his chasuble. The wavy lines on either side of these circles symbolise the deep blue ocean and the rich Australian soil, acknowledging First Nation Australians and their connection to the land and water. The client desired a richly detailed border that would enhance the vestment's form and move along with the celebrant's gestures, with colours that represent Australia's beautiful landscape. The design also aimed to reflect the unity among the parishes, communities, and people of the Diocese - a significant aspect for the client. Overall, "Sacred Connections" is a meaningful representation of the Bishop's role and his connection to the diverse people and land within his Diocese.
