Acknowledgement of Country films

Every place has a story

Wherever we gather, we are on Country. These short films create a moment to pause, listen and acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the place where we meet, before the work of the day begins.

The story behind the films

Thoughtfully created.
Ready to share.

A moment to pause before we begin.

I'm Danielle Leedie Gray, a contemporary Aboriginal artist, illustrator and graphic designer.

I created these films to bring together words, landscape and sound in a moment of acknowledgement. Each film carries my narration and the sound of clapsticks I performed and recorded, inviting people to listen and acknowledge Country before they begin.

More about me and my work

From sky to Country

Each film opens on a night sky that drifts down to a eucalypt on a moonlit cliff, then moves through dawn woodland and along a river.

In my voice

I wrote and narrated the acknowledgement, and I performed and recorded the clapsticks you hear.

Words on screen

Every line is captioned, so everyone in the room can follow along, even in a busy or noisy space.

Watch the previews

Take a moment to watch a preview of each film. The full films run for 46 seconds.

Both films share the same illustrative landscapes. What changes is the acknowledgement itself, which names the Traditional Owners of each location.

“Before we begin, we acknowledge the Turrbal and Yuggera peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the lands where we each live, learn and work today. For more than sixty thousand years, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have cared for these lands, waters and skies, and that care continues today.”
On screen: Created and narrated by Danielle Leedie Gray. Clapsticks performed and recorded by Danielle Leedie Gray. danielleleediegray.com.au. Imagery is illustrative and does not depict your local Country.

Why choose this collection

A thoughtful way to begin

Here's what I hope each film brings to the start of your meeting or gathering.

01

Created by an Aboriginal artist

Every element reflects my creative practice, from the words and narration to the recorded clapsticks, pacing and design.

02

Made with care and purpose

Landscape, narration, sound and captions come together to create a reflective viewing experience that goes beyond words on a presentation slide.

03

Acknowledging place

Each film names the Traditional Owners of its designated location. The landscape imagery is illustrative and is not presented as footage of local Country.

04

Professionally produced

Full HD, clear narration, captions, carefully selected imagery and consistent colour treatment.

05

Ready to use

A finished film that can be licensed without arranging filming, scripting, narration or editing.

06

One fee, no renewals

A one-off, non-exclusive licence for the agreed uses. No subscription or annual renewal fees.

Made for businesses and organisations, People & Culture teams, internal communications, government and community organisations, and events and conferences.

Good to know

Acknowledgement of Country and Welcome to Country: what's the difference?

An Acknowledgement of Country recognises the Traditional Owners of the land and their continuing connection to Country. It can be offered by anyone.

A Welcome to Country is delivered by Traditional Owners or someone authorised by them to welcome visitors to their Country.

My films offer a recorded Acknowledgement of Country. They are not intended to replace a Welcome to Country, a live acknowledgement or meaningful engagement with Traditional Owners.

Before the film plays, you might like to add a few words of your own about what the acknowledgement means to your organisation.

How will we receive the film?

I deliver each order personally. Within two Queensland business days of your payment and licence acceptance, I'll email you a secure download link for your film and its caption file, along with your named licence. The download link stays active for 30 days, so please save your files somewhere safe. Your licence itself doesn't expire.

Where can we use the film?

We have more than one site. What do we need?

Each licence covers one site. Multi-site licensing can be discussed separately, so get in touch and let me know how many sites you have and how you'd like to use the film.

Can we pay by invoice?

Yes. Let me know, and I'll first email you the licence terms to accept in writing. Then I'll send an invoice. Once it's paid, I'll email you a secure download link for your film and caption file, along with your licence, within two Queensland business days.

Can we edit the film?

No. The films are supplied finished and can't be edited, shortened or re-voiced.
