Acknowledgement of Country Films

Film licence terms

Version 1.0 · 28 October 2026

The short version

  • You're buying a licence to use the film, not the film itself. My creative work stays mine.
  • You pay once. There's no annual renewal and no fixed expiry date.
  • One named organisation at one site.
  • Within two Queensland business days of payment and acceptance of these terms, I'll email you a secure download link for your film and its caption file, along with your named licence. The download link stays active for 30 days; your licence itself doesn't expire.
  • In person, in Teams meetings, Zoom calls and webinars your site hosts (including external attendees), and at events your site hosts: all covered.
  • Commercial ticketed events, events organised by another organisation, and public livestreams: please ask me first.
  • Public websites, video platforms and social media: not included. You're welcome to share my preview page instead.
  • Each film acknowledges the Traditional Owners of its designated location. The imagery is illustrative and does not depict your local Country.
  • The film is an Acknowledgement of Country, not a Welcome to Country.

1. About these terms

These terms are between you (the organisation named on your order) and me, Danielle Leedie Gray (ABN 93 628 105 282). They apply when you buy a licence for one of my Acknowledgement of Country films. By ticking the box at checkout, or for invoice orders by confirming in writing, you're confirming that you've read and agree to them, and that you're able to agree on behalf of your organisation.

2. What you're buying

You're buying a non-exclusive licence to play the film you choose.

My creative work. The film is my original creative work. I wrote and narrated the acknowledgement, performed and recorded the clapsticks, and created the artwork, design and edit. I own the copyright in this work.

Licensed material. Some landscape footage in the film is used under licences from third-party providers. I don't own that footage, but I hold the rights I need to include it in the film and to license the film to you on these terms.

You get only the rights set out in these terms. Nothing in them transfers ownership or copyright to you.

  • Your licence: one named organisation at one named site, such as an office, centre or venue you operate.
  • Choosing your film: each film names the Traditional Owners of a designated location. Please choose the film appropriate for the place where you'll use it.
  • Community groups: please get in touch before buying, and I'll recommend the film and licence that suit how you gather.
  • More than one site: each extra site needs its own licence, or ask me about a multi-site licence. I'll confirm the price in writing, and your licence will list every site it covers.

3. When you can start and how long it lasts

Your licence starts when I email your film and named licence, within two Queensland business days of your successful payment and acceptance of these terms. For invoice orders, it starts once you've accepted these terms in writing, the invoice is paid and the files are sent. Your named licence records your organisation, your licensed site and the version of these terms you agreed to.

Your licence has no fixed expiry date. It continues for as long as you use the film in line with these terms.

4. Your licensed site and events

At checkout, you'll give me the name of your organisation and the site the licence covers, with its address. That is your licensed site.

Your licence covers gatherings and events your licensed site hosts, whether at your own premises or another venue. This includes:

  • gatherings of your community: your staff, members, volunteers and board
  • free community events your site hosts
  • conferences and other gatherings your site hosts that are attended by external guests you invite, such as clients, customers, partners and delegates

These need my separate written permission:

  • commercial ticketed events
  • events organised by another organisation, even if you're presenting or co-hosting

Please get in touch and we can talk it through.

5. How you can use the film

You can play the film, in full and as supplied, at:

  • In-person gatherings and events your licensed site hosts, as set out in section 4
  • Live online meetings, calls and webinars your licensed site hosts, such as Microsoft Teams meetings, Zoom calls and webinars, including external attendees. The presenter doesn't need to be at the address, as long as the meeting is hosted by your licensed site.
  • Within a presentation, such as a slide deck, as long as the film plays in full and unchanged

Remote attendance has limits. People at other sites or offices can join a meeting hosted by your licensed site. That doesn't allow those sites to play the film at their own gatherings: each needs its own licence, or a multi-site licence.

6. Recordings and storing the files

  • Recordings of complete meetings and events. You can keep and share a recording of a complete meeting or event that includes the film within your organisation, including on a restricted intranet or internal platform. Please don't publish it.
  • Storing the files. You can keep the files on secure internal devices or drives, so the people who run your gatherings can play the film for the uses above, including offline.
  • Standalone uploads need permission. Uploading the film on its own, so people can watch it any time, needs my permission first. That includes an intranet, learning platform, video library, shared channel, all-staff email or newsletter.

7. Public broadcasts and public sharing

  • Public broadcasts. Livestreaming or broadcasting an event that includes the film publicly needs my separate permission. This includes platforms such as YouTube Live, Facebook Live and LinkedIn Live. Webinars and online meetings your site hosts are covered in section 5.
  • Public sharing. The licence doesn't include posting or distributing the film publicly. That covers any clip, still image or audio from it, on a public website, video platform or social media, or on a portal shared with people outside your organisation. You're welcome to share my preview page instead: danielleleediegray.com.au/acknowledgement-of-country-films.

8. What the licence doesn't allow

  • Editing, cutting, re-voicing, adding to or changing the film, captions or soundtrack
  • Removing, covering or cutting the end card, including my name, credit and the note that the imagery is illustrative
  • Using the film, or any part of it (including its artwork, imagery, narration, voice and sound), with artificial intelligence tools without my written permission. This includes:
    • training, fine-tuning or prompting AI tools with it
    • extracting it for use in AI systems or datasets
    • using AI to modify it
    • using AI to generate new content from it, such as a new version of the acknowledgement or a synthetic version of my voice
This doesn't stop you using ordinary accessibility features, such as automatic captions or meeting transcripts.
  • Using the film in a disrespectful or inappropriate way, or in a way that could reasonably bring me, or the Traditional Owners named in the film, into disrepute. This includes using it alongside content that's offensive, discriminatory or misleading.
  • Sharing the files with anyone outside your organisation
  • Selling, sub-licensing, lending or giving the film to anyone else
  • Transferring your licence to another organisation without my written consent. I won't refuse unreasonably, for example if your organisation changes its name or merges.
  • Using the film at a site that isn't named on your licence, except as set out in sections 4 to 6
  • Using the imagery, narration or sound separately from the film
  • Presenting the film as a Welcome to Country
  • Suggesting that I, or the film, endorse your organisation, products or commitments
  • Using the film in political campaigning, such as an election, referendum or party campaign, or in a way that suggests I, or the Traditional Owners named in the film, support a political party, candidate or cause. This doesn't restrict ordinary use by government departments, councils or other public bodies at their own meetings and events.

9. Using the film respectfully

An Acknowledgement of Country recognises the Traditional Owners of the land and their continuing connection to Country. It can be offered by anyone. A Welcome to Country is delivered by Traditional Owners or someone authorised by them to welcome visitors to their Country. The film offers a recorded Acknowledgement of Country and is not intended to replace a Welcome to Country, a live acknowledgement or meaningful engagement with Traditional Owners.

The landscape imagery is illustrative and does not depict your local Country. You might like to introduce the film by naming the Traditional Owners of the land where you're gathering, and adding a few words of your own.

10. My credit and moral rights

I'm the creator of the film, and I have moral rights in it under the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth): the right to be credited, and the right for my work not to be treated in a derogatory way. Please keep my credit with the film, as on its end card.

If you'd like to credit the film in a program or presentation, you're welcome to use: "Acknowledgement of Country film by Danielle Leedie Gray."

11. Payment

Each film licence is A$500, a one-off payment in Australian dollars shown at checkout. There are no ongoing fees for the uses described here. I'm not registered for GST, so no GST is charged.

If you'd like to pay by invoice or purchase order, please get in touch before ordering. I'll email you these terms first. Once you've confirmed in writing that your organisation accepts them, I'll send the invoice. Your licence starts once the invoice is paid and the files are sent.

12. Delivery

I deliver each order personally. Within two Queensland business days of your payment and acceptance of these terms, I'll email you a secure download link for your film file and its caption (SRT) file, shared with the email address on your order, along with your named licence.

The download link stays active for 30 days after I send it, so please save your files somewhere safe. If you lose them later, contact me and I'll arrange a new link. The 30-day download period doesn't affect your licence, which has no fixed expiry (section 3).

If there's a delay. Occasionally something outside my control, such as illness or a technical outage, may delay delivery. If that happens, I'll contact you as soon as I can to explain and give you a new delivery date. I'll ask for a reasonable opportunity to resolve it. You're still welcome to cancel for a full refund at any time before I send your files (section 13). Nothing here limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

13. Cancellation, refunds and your consumer rights

Before I send your files. If you change your mind before I've emailed your film and licence, let me know. I'll cancel your order and refund you in full, or swap it for the other location's film.

After I've sent your files. Once your film and licence have been sent, I can't offer a refund just because you've changed your mind.

If there's a problem with your film. If your film is faulty, doesn't match its description or isn't what you ordered, please let me know. I'll fix it, replace it or refund you, as the Australian Consumer Law requires.

Your consumer rights. Our goods and services come with guarantees that can't be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. Nothing in these terms, or in my refunds and returns policy, excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that can't be excluded. That includes your rights if the film has a major or minor failure, or isn't fit for purpose or as described. My refunds and returns policy also applies, to the extent it's consistent with these terms.

14. My promise to you and liability

I promise that I have the rights needed to license the film to you on these terms, including for the third-party footage I've used.

To the extent the law allows, and subject to your rights under the Australian Consumer Law, my total liability to you in connection with your licence is limited to replacing the film or refunding the licence fee you paid. I'm not responsible for indirect losses, such as lost profits or event costs. I'm also not responsible for any use of the film outside these terms.

15. More than one site

If you'd like to use the film at more than one site, I'm happy to quote a multi-site licence. Please get in touch.

16. If the terms aren't followed

Your licence has no fixed expiry and continues for as long as you use the film in line with these terms. If something isn't right, I'll contact you first so we can talk it through. Most things can be sorted out that way.

Breaches that can be fixed. If you breach these terms and it can be put right, I'll email you written notice. It will explain the issue, what's needed to fix it, and give you 14 days to do so, or longer if that's reasonable. If it's fixed, your licence continues. If it isn't fixed in that time, I may end your licence by written notice.

Public posting. If the film, or part of it, has been posted or shared publicly without permission, I'll ask you to take it down within two business days. If you do, I won't end your licence for that reason alone.

Serious breaches. I may end your licence by written notice, without the 14-day period, only if:

  • you've sold, sub-licensed or given the film files to another person or organisation
  • the film has been used with AI tools in breach of section 8
  • the film has been altered, re-voiced or presented as a Welcome to Country
  • the film has been used in a disrespectful way described in section 8
  • you don't take down a public post when asked under the previous paragraph

Even then, I'll explain my reasons in writing and, where practical, give you a chance to respond.

If your licence ends. You'll need to stop using the film and delete your copies. Ending a licence doesn't affect any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law.

17. If we disagree

If a disagreement arises, please email me with the details, and I'll do the same if it's me raising it. We'll both try in good faith to sort it out within 14 days. If we can't, either of us can suggest mediation, for example through the Arts Law Centre of Australia, before going to court. Each of us will cover our own costs of trying to resolve it. This doesn't affect your right to contact a consumer protection agency, or either of us seeking urgent relief from a court.

18. Your details

I'll use the details you give me only to fulfil your order and licence, as set out in my privacy policy at danielleleediegray.com.au/privacy-policy. I won't name your organisation publicly without your permission.

19. Changes to these terms

If I update these terms, the version you agreed to at checkout continues to apply to your licence. Each version is dated, and your named licence records which version applies. Any change to your licence needs to be agreed in writing.

20. General

  • Notices. Notices under these terms are given by email: to the email on your order, and to me at collaborate@danielleleediegray.com.au.
  • Cultural rights. Nothing in these terms transfers, excludes or limits any cultural rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. This includes the Traditional Owners named in each film, and my own rights as an Aboriginal artist, to the extent those rights are recognised under Australian law. Each acknowledgement is offered with respect for the Traditional Owners it names, and I ask you to use it in that spirit.
  • The whole agreement. These terms, your order, your named licence and any multi-site licence I confirm in writing make up our agreement.
  • If part doesn't apply. If any part of these terms is found invalid, the rest still applies.
  • Governing law. These terms are governed by the law of Queensland, Australia. Nothing here takes away consumer protections you have under the laws of your own state or territory.

21. Questions

If anything here is unclear, or you're not sure whether a use is covered, please contact me at collaborate@danielleleediegray.com.au before you go ahead. I'm always happy to talk it through.
